Officers' Club Center Of Activity For 18 Yea rs The Commissioned Officer's Mess (Open), more com· monly referred to as the Officers' Club by most residents, has served as the center of social functions and official receptions for visiting dignitaries for the past 18 years. It later burned·but the fireplace still stands in mute testimony to the early pioneers of the Station. The first officers were Mrs. Sherman E. Burroughs, Jr., pres- ident; Mrs. Arthur L. Berinett, vice president; Mrs. Jackson L. Grayson, secretary; and Mrs. Harold T. Jones, treasurer. The by-laws of the Club spell- ed out the purpose of the Club was to assist such agencies as the Navy Relief, American Red Cross, etc., either financially or by service, which it has contino ued to do over the past years.
