Re: Plague Replacement Requests 217,219 and 219-1/2 Park Street
Your application for a plague replacement was processed by our research team then presented to
the Board of Directors at our monthly meeting.
Although 217 Park is a fine home and worthy of a plague, it has a plague in almost-new condition.
It is not in need of replacement.
The board approved replacements for the plaques at the twin cabins 219 and 219-1/2 Park.
Congratulations.
This is a summary of what we found:
There are 2 similar cabins on the same lot. Each had its own plague, but neither plague remains.
Both are long, narrow rectangular structures, each with a simple wood shingle gabled steeply
sloped roof and double-hung wood windows. Each had a shed roofed extension in the back and a
small gable-roofed porch on the front. One has board & batten siding while the other has
clapboard siding.
Both were built in 1904 under the ownership of Mrs. Almira E. Olmstead.
They were restored between 1991 and 1993. Work included new foundations, electrical,
plumbing, repair to rafters, comp. roofing, window replacement and steeper roofs on the sheds in
the rear. New windows were wood double-hung but some were enlarged to satisfy bedroom
egress requirements and other smaller windows were relocated to accommodate remodeled
bathrooms. These changes are along the sides and are mostly unseen.
The name of the original owner and date of construction are confirmed by Sanborn Maps and tax
records.
