Daniel J. Yarr
Daniel J. Yarr, a former Shel-
ton resident, died Sunday, May 3,
at his home in Kingsburg, Califor-
nia. He was 63.
He was born in Shelton on May
7, 1934 to Daniel and Katherine
Yarr. He graduated from Irene S.
Reed High School in Shelton in
1952 and from the US Military
Academy at West Point where he
earned a bachelor of science de-
gree
Mr. Yarr served in the Air
Force as a pilot during the Viet—
nam‘ War, where he received the
Distinguished Flying Cross.
Later he eamed a master’s de-
gree in political science from An-
burn University in Alabama and
Eufit milfiaiy sciience in the Re-
serve Officer Training Corps pro-
gram at Texas A&M University
in College Station.
In 1980, he retired from active
duty with the rank of lieutenant
colonel after 22 years in the Air
Force.
After his retirement, he moved
to Kingsburg, California, where
he farmed raisins and taught po-
litical science at Kings River
Community College.
Mr. Yarr also Worked as a sub-
stitute teacher at Kingsburg High
School where he was a golf coach
He was an avid golfer and was a
member of the Kings River Golf
and Country Club. He had lived
in Kingsburg for the last 18
years.
Mri Yarr is survived by his
wife Roxie Lee Yarr of Kingsburg;
two sons, Daniel J Yarr III and
Sean M. Yarr, both of Washington
State; two daughters, Dawn Mi
Escobar of Hanford, California,
and Jennifer K. Yarr of Costa
Mesa, California; three sisters,
Sally Morgan of Shelton, Grace
Nash of Alaska and Marie Sewell
of New Jersey; and two grandchil—
dreni
A mass was celebrated Thurs-
day, May 7, at the Holy Family
Catholic Church in Kingsburgi A
private burial followed. The Rev-
erend Daniel Avila of Saint Bri-
gid’s Church in Hanford officiat-
ed.
Arrangements are by
Creighton Memorial Chapel in
Kingsburg.
